Inaugural LBLBC Tidy Bowl & BBQ

Saturday, November 17, 2018: 9:00am - 1:30pm

Every now and then we need to give our club a good once-over to get rid of unnecessary items, clean out areas not seen since time began, patch things, and just generally make the club a cleaner place. After all, Laguna Beach Lawn Bowling Club is one of the most beautiful clubs in the US and it would make sense if our clubhouse and grounds reflected that.

So, the board decided to encourage member participation, make a fun event out of it, and call it the Tidy Bowl (which we all thought was clever). The event is timed to coincide with our normal Saturday Social Bowl. The idea is that everybody shows up at 9:00 with cleaning supplies (that you know how to use), tidy the clubhouse and grounds, have a social bowl, and follow it up with a BBQ of some kind provided free of charge to tidiers by the club.

Those wishing just to bowl, show up a bit later at 10:30am for a 10:45am Social Bowl. There will be a charge of $10 for non-tidiers wishing to join in the BBQ.

Here's the itinerary:

  • 09:00am - Show up with your own cleaning supplies.
  • 09:10am - Organize "tidy teams" and tasks.
  • 10:30am - Finish tidying, sign up for bowls.
  • 10:45am - Social bowl begins.
  • 12:45pm - Social bowl ends, BBQ begins.
  • 01:30pm - Should be finished.

Send an Email to the club that you'll be participating so the club knows how much food to purchase and serve.  Tell us if you'll be a tidier or not.

4.20.19 Easter Bowl and Pizza

Saturday, April 20, 2019: 9:45am - 1:30pm

Just show up. Pizza served following the game.

On Day of Event

  • 9:45am - Sign in. Teams will be randomly assigned. Opponents will be randomly selected.
  • 10:00am - Everybody plays a single 12-end game.
  • 12:30pm - Pizza is served!

5.11.19 LBLBC Open House

Laguna Beach Lawn Bowling Club's annual Open House will be held on Saturday May 11 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. This is where we open the club to the general public for them to try out the game of bowls, most of them for the first time. This is a big event and another opportunity to sign up new members for the rest of the year. The dues are prorated and initiation fees waived, so it is also good value for new members. Send an Email to your friends and co-workers. What a deal!

We already have a list of volunteers who have signed up, but we can always use more! If you're still interested in helping, click on any of the links below to send the club an email. Plus, you'll probably meet some new club members. Volunteers get food and drink.

  1. greeter
  2. registration
  3. instruction
  4. membership
  5. food & drink
  6. photography
  7. set up
  8. clean up

We'll get in touch with you prior to May 11 to give you the specifics.

2019 Annual General Meeting

The AGM is LBLBC's Annual General Meeting and it is basically a State of the Club address to its members. You find out what was done in 2019, what we're planning in 2020, and you get to ask questions should you have any.

In addition, because the Holidays are so busy, the club has decided to combine the AGM with a Holiday Party and Social Bowl. Like last year, the club will be footing the bill for an exquisite  lunch, courtesy of Boston Market .

It'll cost you nothing (free!) if you show up for the AGM. For guests and those that don't show up for the AGM, it's $10.00.

Here's the itinerary:

  • 10:00am - Annual General Meeting
  • 11:45am - Meeting Ends (hopefully). Organize teams.
  • 12:00pm - A 10-end Game of Bowls
  • 01:30pm - Bowling ends. Food is served.
  • 02:30pm - Done!

2020 LBLBC Board Nominees

  1. David Breedon
  2. Les Cantin
  3. Sandy Graham
  4. Michael Iannotti
  5. Greg Mech
  6. Stephanie Smith
  7. Dennis Lockwood, Treasurer
  8. Heather Stewart, Past-President

Additionally, Linda Roberts will agree to be Secretary (non-voting).

Members will vote to elect members to the board at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 10:00am (here at the club).

Additional nominees may be proposed via petition naming the nominee signed by 10 members of LBLBC in good standing. This petition must be posted at the club bulletin board 5 days before the AGM, or December 3, 2019.

Respectfully:

Bruce Wheeler, Colleen Jenkins, Jerry Stewart, Linda Roberts, & Mary Spease.

2018 Annual General Meeting & Holiday Party

The AGM is LBLBC's Annual General Meeting and it is basically a State of the Club address to its members. You find out what was done in 2018, what we're planning in 2019, and you get to ask questions should you have any. In addition, because the Holidays are so busy, the club has decided to combine the AGM with a Holiday Party and Social Bowl, complete with Santa (if someone dresses up like him that is). It'll cost you nothing (free!) if you show up for the AGM. For guests and those that don't show up for the AGM, it's $10.00.

Dorothy Pinnella is coordinating people bringing dishes to the party. Just Email her by Wed, Dec 5th.

Here's the itinerary:

  • 10:00am - Annual General Meeting
  • 11:45am - Meeting Ends (hopefully). Organize teams.
  • 12:00am - Bowling begins.
  • 02:00pm - Bowling ends. Food is served.
  • 03:00pm - Done!

Please let us know that you'll be attending so the club knows how much food to serve.  Send an Email to Dorothy.

Private Event Preparation

  1. The volunteers must arrive 1/2 hour before the event (an hour is too much in most cases unless there are special circumstances.)

  3. The contract states private events are 4 hours . This should be made clear to the group hosting.  The volunteers must start notifying the guests 30 minutes prior to the end of the event that the event is about to end.

  4. An email blast will be sent to all members stating to them what will be unavailable to them. Handling unhappy members in the middle of the event can be avoided and if they have been informed easily handled .
