About Us

Our Club, established in 1931, is the largest in the USA. LBLBC is situated in Heisler Park over looking the Pacific.

We bowl with soft ocean breezes and the occasional whale watching opportunity.

Laguna Beach Lawn Bowling Club members, young, old, novice, or veteran enjoy both social and tournament bowls. We provide ongoing complimentary lessons in basics, strategy, etiquette and team games. We are proud to have 100% Bowls USA membership.

Bowling Activities

Social Bowls

Throughout the year, our members join together to bowl 4 times a week for 12 ends.

  • Tuesday 9:45-12:15
  • Saturday 9:45-12:15
  • Sunday 12:45- 3:00
  • Thursday 5:15-7:15 Sunset Pot Luck Bowls (Begins April 5)

These fun gatherings are open to all members without pre-registration. New members are especially welcomed and encouraged to come and learn from the seasoned bowlers.

Tournament Level/League Prep Bowls

  • On an ad hoc basis with Team USA Member, Kim Heiser and rotating instructors.

For members who want to transition to serious League and Tournament play. Challenging weekly practice drills and game, to improve concentration and accuracy. Learn strategy and the rules of League and Tournament play.

  • On-going social/tourney play
  • Fridays 9:45-12:00

Each week is a different style game of Survivor, Cut Throat, Australian Pairs, 2-Jack, and more! You're only welcome to join if you have a taste for fun with a competitive edge!

High level competitive bowlers come together for serious bowling. Many players come from other clubs. Both Monday and Wednesday groups consist of national and international bowlers, challenging the weekly play. Both Monday and Wednesday groups are by special invitation only.

Ways To Enjoy the Club

Introductory lessons are complimentary and mandatory for membership.

Two class levels are offered to further your bowling expertise: Level-Novice (your first 2-years of membership), and Level 2-Veteran (the more seasoned player). Visit our calendar for dates and times.

Sign up sheets for all classes are at the front office.

Holiday and Theme Bowling

Good Bowls equals Good Eats! After bowls, get together with other members during the holidays or for Theme Bowls:  Persian Night, Italian Night, Cowboy Night, BBQ, and more!

Use the greens to better your game. Join friends to work on drills and play.

It's Easy to Join!

Membership is open to all interested bowlers, Laguna residents or not. If you have been walking by in Heisler Park, or walking along Cliff Drive and have taken a peek at the greens wondering whether it's fun or not, wondering if you should give it a try, then contact the Club for a free introductory lesson.

Lawn bowling is popular in many countries all over the world and has recently shown amazing growth in the USA. In 2016, World Bowls launched the formal process of seeking International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognition for our sport! So join us and see what other national and international active people do for fun!

Email us info@lagunabeachlawnbowlingclub.com to schedule a free lesson and orientation.   Please note that flat soft soled shoes with minimum treads or sandals without a protruding heel are the only footwear allowed on the greens. Bare feet are ok too. Our greens are our most prized and delicate possession and we treat them very gently.

Open House is held every May, (next one is May 12, 2018). This event is held on the same day all over the country at Lawn Bowling Clubs to encourage people to give Lawn Bowling a try. The Open House takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • How do I sign up for club events?
There are sign up sheets on the doors of the club and PayPal entry forms on the website.
  • Can I come down and bowl anytime?
Yes, unless there is a tournament or private event. We encourage you to practice.

  • What is check in time?
Typically 15 minutes before the start of any club event so the Game Director for that event has time to set up the game.

  • How are lead, vice, and skip determined for tournament and club events?
The Game Director for that day will determine who plays which position on which rink. Sometime it's a blind draw (which means you simply are randomly put on a rink) but the Game Director will still determine who the lead, vice, and skip will be.

  • What if I want refreshments from the fridge?
LBLBC uses an honor system and you pay for what you consume. Prices are listed on the blue can in the fridge where your payment is to be made.

  • How do I sign up for Weekly Summer Club Social Bowls and Pot Luck?
And what should I bring? There is no need to sign up. Simply arrive ready to play and bring something to share with all the players, an hors d'oeuvres, a salad, a protein, a side, or a dessert.

  • What is a novice?
You are considered a novice for 2 years after you join. There are several novice only tournaments and vet/novice tournaments.

  • How do I buy lawn bowling clothing items?
We have club blue shirts, white shirts, and red, white and blue shirts for sale at the clubhouse. For tournaments at our club you are required to wear a club shirt. Outside tournaments have other requirements but in most cases you and your team should “match”. We also have visors, hats, tee shirts, and measurers, etc.

  • How do I know what is goiing on at LBLBC?
There are a number of calendars on the website. The Social Calendar, the  Competition Calendar, the Training Calendar, and the Special Events Calendar. All events (including events in these calendars) are present in the Master Calendar on the Club Calendar page.

  • What is Wonderfull Wednesday?
LBLBC organizes a Wednesday bowl where members are invited to participate. Open to the more competitive player. It starts at 09:00am.

  • Are we allowed to have beer bottles/cans on the greens?
Please remember that the City of Laguna Beach city ordinance does NOT allow any alcoholic beverage containers on the greens. Water bottles and plastic cups are allowed.

  • Where do I get the chalk and buy my own measuring tapes?
They're stocked at the club. Come on by and buy them.

  • I would really like to become a competitive player. How do I find out about tournament play?
Check the LBLBC Competition Calendar as it lists the upcoming tournaments. Pay attention to the periodic LBLBC eBlasts. They always call out the upcoming SW Division tournaments. Visit http://www.swlawbowls.com.

  • Why are private and corporate events on the calendar?
Private and corporate events support our financial presence as a nonprofit organization. Bowling and the use of our greens is a city required component of all private events. Events must be scheduled one month in advance for the convenient notification to our members. Many member volunteers help with these events. Let us know if you are interested.

  • Do we have a dress code?
You are asked to wear club shirts and white bottoms on Saturdays, Sundays, and for Tournaments.

  • Can I bring a non member guest bowling?
Yes you may bring the same guest up to 3 times a year to introduce them to lawnbowling. Regardless of the number of members in a group the total number of guests is restricted to 6 per day. There is a Guest fee of $3 per guest. Otherwise it becomes a Private Event and will be billed to you as such.
