Waterbury Criteria

Waterbury Criteria if Laguna Beach wins CL and qualifies:

  • Must have declared Laguna Beach as their primary club
  • Must have bowled at least once in CL
  • Compliant with wearing the club uniform and checking in on time, etc.
  • Consideration will be given to current and former Team USA bowlers
  • Consideration will be given to SW Division playdowns winners representing the division at the National Championships
  • Consideration will be given to performance in major lawn bowls tournaments including the US Open, SW Open, SC Open and PBA qualifiers
  • All of the above will be taken into account by the Laguna Beach Coast League Representatives who will make the final selections. We acknowledge there is some subjectivity in this process, but believe we will make the best selections possible to represent Laguna Beach should we qualify for the Waterbury

What Is Coast League

Originally established by Dr. R.J.Carey of Long Beach in 1959, Coast League is where area lawn bowling clubs compete against one another at each other's lawn bowling club locations. The intent is to encourage inter-club play and offer lawn bowling clubs and their members an opportunity to gain experience on greens of different caliber by visiting other clubs.

The winner of the Coast League is invited to compete in the Waterbury All-League Championship along with the winners of four other SWLBA (Southwest Lawn Bowling Association) leagues. Championship winners will have their names enscribed on the following trophies:

  • 1st - Dr Carey Trophy
  • 2nd - MacDonald Trophy
  • 3rd - Arnold Angell Trophy

League Specifics

  • The cost is $5 per person per day.
  • Each club will have either 2 or 4 triples teams.
  • The scores from all triples teams will be counted in the team score.
  • Number of wins will be divided by the number of games played to determine winning percentage score.
  • Standings each week will list teams in order of winning percentages.
  • The win-loss ratio of each club's teams for a particular day will be determined.
  • The club with the highest % of wins over the season will advance to Waterbury.

Hospitality

NO HOSPITALITY!!  This means there will be no goodies provided by  the club unless they voluntarily decide to do so. So, be prepared to bring your own breakfast, snack, and lunch. There will be no chips or salads provided. All that will be provided is water and coffee.  (Please figure out a way to identify YOUR  bottle of water from the others...maybe bring a rubber band or ribbon to place around it-?)
