LBLBC in October Tournaments
Maccabee Pairs
- LBLBC member Phil Dunn joined James Flower in winning the Maccabee Pairs tournament held Sunday, October 21 at the Beverly Hills Lawn Bowling Club.
- LBLBC member Lou Cohen teamed with Bruce Williams in taking 3rd Place.
- Other LBLBC competitors included: Patrick Walsh.
SWLBA Veteran -Novice Pairs
- LBLBC members Fred Robles and Alan Burkholder took a gold medal by winning the North Green of the SWLBA Vet-Novice Pairs tournament held October 20th at our own Laguna Beach Lawn Bowling Club.
- Placing 2nd and taking a silver medal on the South Green was LBLBC member Ron Cetta with Rick Gregory.
- Placing 3rd and taking a bronze medal on the North Green were LBLBC members Randy Hatfield and Cheri Spalo.
Yes, they actually got medals!
- Other LBLBC competitors included: Abe Pinnella with Chris Dodd, Bruce Wheeler with Chris Quinn, and Norma Goodhart with John Ward.
- LBLBC member Scott Roberts joined Jack Bucey competed as a team at the Vet / Novice tournment held at Mackenzie Park Lawn Bowling Club in Santa Barbara.
Hiscock Mixed Triples
- LBLBC member Scott Roberts joined Ed Quo and Eva Lee to win 3rd place in the Hiscock Mixed Triples held October 7, 2018 at the Coronado Lawn Bowling Club.
- Other LBLBC competitors included: Lou Cohen, Christian de Taillac, Shelley Cohen, Fred Robles, and Kole Carr.
Oaks North Mixed Triples
- LBLBC members Fred Robles, Ron Cetta, Lou Cohen, Shelly Cohen, Scott Roberts, Linda Roberts, Kim Heiser, Joanne Hedgespeth, and Mary Thompson all participated in the Oaks North Mixed Triples tournament held October 6, 2018 at the Oaks North Lawn Bowling Club.
5 LBLBC Members Help Team USA To Win at the 2018 NAC
- The following 5 Laguna Beach Lawn Bowling Club bowlers selected for Team USA, teamed up with other nationally-selected bowlers to win the 2018 North American Challenge hosted by Southwest Division's Laguna Woods Lawn Bowling Club on October 11 - 13.

- It turned out to be quite a "moist" affair as rare October rains hit Friday and continued into Saturday. Luckily, the high quality Laguna Woods artificial greens allowed competition to continue without much effect to the pace of the bowls.
It was the most complete USA Team win ever at the NAC.

LBLBC in July, August Tournaments
John Clark Mixed Triples
LBLBC members Lou and Shelley Cohen teamed with Keno Shaw to win the B Group ("Tigers") division of the John Clark Mixed Triples held August 25, 2018 at the Hermosa Beach Lawn Bowling Club. LBLBC members Fred Robles, Norma Goodhart, and Ron Cetta placed 2nd in the B Group.
Other LBLBC competitors included Denise French, Joanne Hedgespeth, and Debbie Gaal.
Murray-Allison Singles
LBLBC members Phil Dunn and Lou Cohen took 3rd and 4th place respectively on the Allison green of the Murray-Allison Singles Tournament Aug 18th and 19th at the Santa Anita Lawn Bowling Club.
Other LBLBC competitors included: Fred Robles, Christian de Taillac, Scott Roberts, Chris Dodd, and Randy Hatfield.
SWWD Veteran/Novice Pairs
LBLBC member Norma Goodhart teamed with Jane Blair to win the B Green of the SWWD Veteran/Novice Pairs Aug 12 at the Long Beach Lawn Bowling Club.

LBLBC member Debby Gaal teamed with Mary Ann Beath to win the Women's Division of the Laguna Beach Open Pairs Tournament held at the club on Aug 11th. LBLBC members Joanne Hedgespeth and Mary Thompsonplaced 2nd, and LBLBC member Norma Goodhart teamed with Diana Wenzel to place 3rd.
LBLBC member Scott Roberts teamed with Bill Brault to take 2nd in the Men's Division. LBLBC members Abe Pinnella and Fred Robles took 4th place.

LBLBC members Lou Cohen and Shelley Cohen competed in the Wasserman Mixed Pairs held at the San Diego Lawn Bowling Club, Saturday July 28th.
SWLBA U.S. Pairs Playdowns
LBLBC members Lou Cohen, Gary Barnes, Abe Pinnella, Tom Richeson, Fred Robles, Kole Carr, Patrick Walsh, and Scott Roberts all competed in the SWLBA U.S. Pairs Playdowns held at our club July 14, 15, 21, and 22. Alas none of the above placed, but great matches were played at a beautiful club.
SWWD U.S. Singles Playdowns
LBLBC member Joanne Hedgespeth won the Stripes Green and Linda Roberts placed 2nd on the Stars Green in the SWWD U.S. Singles Playdowns held at Newport Harbor Lawn Bowling Club on July 14, 15, 21 & 22.

Ralph Ecton Triples
LBLBC members Lou Cohen and Phil Dunn traveled all the way to Oxnard to compete in the Ralph Ecton Triples July 8th at the Oxnard Lawn Bowling Club.
Robles Takes 4th Place in Pat Gonzales Mixed Australian Pairs
LBLBC member Fred Robles teamed with Candy DeFazio to take 4th place on the A Green in the Pat Gonzales Mixed Australian Pairs July 7 at Long Beach Lawn Bowling Club.

LBLBC Bowls in Victoria, BC
We all know that probably the only reason that our bowls club exists today was because we built it to bring the Canadians down to Laguna. Well, on 2 separate occasion, Chris Quinn & Bruce Wheeler, and Randy & Ginger Hatfield decided to see what all the hubub was about up there in Canada. All were graciously treated to a bowls outing courtesy of the Victoria B.C. Lawn Bowling Club. Chris & Bruce were motoring around Canada. Randy & Ginger were on a cruise stopover. The Hatfields sent the club an Email and were told that people would be waiting there for them. And indeed they were. Had a nice 10-end trips game.

- LBLBC member Ron Cetta teamed with Grant Shear, Barry Hayes, and Robert Busciglio to win the consolation prize at the SoCal Rinks Tournament, June 2-3, 2018 at Santa Monica Lawn Bowling Club.

LBLBC member Phil Dunn teamed with Corey Vose and LBLBC member Lou Cohen teamed with Howard Horowitz to place 2nd and 7th respectively in Beverly Hills Lawn Bowling Club's 48th Annual Walt Disney Pairs Tournament on Memorial Day Weekend, Sat - Mon, May 26-28, 2018.

LBLBC In The Southwest Women's Open
Pairs
- LBLBC Member Mary Spease teamed up with fellow bowler Eileen Lancendorfer to win the Southwest Women's Open Pairs Championship Flight at Santa Anita Bowling Green Club in Arcadia on April 23rd and 24th. They beat 24 teams who signed up for the 2-day competition which consisted of 4 Monday qualifying matches (the top 8 qualified) followed by Tuesday's 4 match elimination bracket. Well done!
- LBLBC Member Joanne Hedgepeth teamed with Mary Thompson to place 2nd in the Second Flight.
- LBLBC Member Kim Heiser teamed with Giulia Gallo to place 1st in the Third Flight.

So Cal Triples, Mar 24 & 25
LBLBC Member Phil Dunn teamed up with fellow bowlers James Flowers and Len Wasserman to win the Southern California Triples competition in San Diego's Balboa Park on March 24th and 25th.
18 teams signed up for the 2-day competition which consisted of Saturday qualifying matches (the top 8 qualified) followed by Sunday's seeded double elimination bracket.
LBLBC Member Scott Roberts teamed with Michael Siddall and Corey Vose to capture 3rd place in the event. Other LBLBC members competing included Abe Pinnella, Lou Cohen, and Clay Nolde.
USA Women Medal Twice in China!
Team USA followed up their silver in Hong Kong with a bronze in China. LBLBC is represented by Linda Roberts on the US Team!
Mumma Mixed Pairs - Riverside, Feb 24

Ginger Hatfield (skip) and Randy Hatfield (lead) competed against 16 teams and were the B green champions of the Mumma Mixed Pairs Tournament held at the Riverside Lawn Bowling Club, Feb 24, 2018.
Three 12-end games. Winners were determined by number of games won and a max 10 plus points.
