Congratulations Team USA!
LBLBC members Phil Dunn, Scott Roberts, Linda Roberts joined Neil Furman to win 4th place in the Jack Beckley Quinnell Rinks held September 30 at the Santa Monica Lawn Bowling Club. They took home some cash! The tournament catered lunch and hosted a very classy catered meal complete with host bar and appetizers at the nearby Beckley home. Beautiful!
Quinell scoring is interesting in that you get points for the number of ends you win plus 3 points if your team won total points for the match. This promotes more aggressive play.
Other LBLBC competitors included: Abe Pinnella, Randy Hatfield, Norma Goodhart, Lou Cohen, and Shelley Cohen.
LBLBC members Joanne Hedgespeth and Traci Manzi joined Kay Tong to win 4th place in the Izzie Forbes Vet-Novice Triples held September 23rd at the Long Beach Lawn Bowling Club. Well done!

Earlier in the year the club sent out invitations to LBLBC members who would be interested in representing the LBLBC in the 11th Annual Joslyn Mixed Triples Invitational held at Holmby Park, Saturday, September 22nd. This is a very high profile tournament who's goal is to bring so-called "tournament bowlers" and "social bowlers" closer together. The following teams represented Laguna this year.
Abe Pinnella, Kole Carr, and Cheri Spalo
Randy Hatfield, Ginger Hatfield, and Tom Richeson.
Though neither team finished "in the money", both were very competitive. The format was three 10-end games. Continental breakfast was served from 8:30 to 9:30 AM. A full catered lunch from 11:30 to 12:00. Desserts, coffee and ice cream from 1:30 to 2 PM. (And the club paid for it!)

We all know that probably the only reason that our bowls club exists today was because we built it to bring the Canadians down to Laguna. Well, on 2 separate occasion, Chris Quinn & Bruce Wheeler, and Randy & Ginger Hatfield decided to see what all the hubub was about up there in Canada. All were graciously treated to a bowls outing courtesy of the Victoria B.C. Lawn Bowling Club. Chris & Bruce were motoring around Canada. Randy & Ginger were on a cruise stopover. The Hatfields sent the club an Email and were told that people would be waiting there for them. And indeed they were. Had a nice 10-end trips game.
Thank you Victoria Lawn Bowling Club!
On Wednesday June 20th from 6:00pm to ~7:00pm Fred Robles trained a group of LBLBC members how to train new members. The group came up to speed on Bowls USA methodology and progressions, can now teach classes in the same way, and know the best ways to get the new bowlers ready for club draws and club tournaments.
