Most everybody is still learning skills, rules, and etiquette. In fact, that's really the point. What better way to learn than to bowl against bowlers close to your skill level and under the watchful eyes of vet markers (some with no end to their advice).
This is a fun novice introduction to tournament play.
Here's your chance at getting your feet wet with regards to tournament bowling right here at LBLBC. And, vets can't play, so these are free points!
Just the novices from our club will compete against one another for bragging rights, your name on a plaque dating back to who knows when, a mention in our LBLBC eBlast, and a little cash to boot.
Points go towards the yearly Bowler of the Year prize (and free green fees for the next year).
Arrive at 8:30am (or earlier to practice), bring your own lunch, and pay your 5 bucks. The organizers will fill out scorecards with opponent team numbers and rink numbers for each of your 3 matches. They'll call you up by name to blindly pick a card and you walk to your first rink and meet your 1st opponent.
The first one to reach 15 pts is the winner (you'll bowl as many ends it takes) for the match. Each person keeps the match score on their own scorecard. At the end of the match, you compare the cards, make sure they're the same, sign your opponent's scorecard, and turn them in at the office for the organizer to update the standings sheet. When you get your cards back, it's off to match #2.
After the match around noonish, it's lunch time (and group commiseration) in the clubhouse or on the patio (adult beverage time if you're so inclined) followed by the final match #3.
The more participants, the more places awarded (usually 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places).
The 2018 LBLBC Mixed Triples Tourney held will be held on Sunday June 10th starting at 9:00am.
Mixed Triples means there are 3 players to a team, each team must be composed of at least one man and one woman, and each participant bowls 3 bowls per end. Teams and competitors will be determined by random draw.
We will be playing 3 timed 12-end games; 2 before lunch and 1 after. Each game must be played within one hour and 30 minutes. When time is up (the cowbell is clanged), each game must finish the end in progress.
Timed games assure that everyone will start the next game on time, all will eat lunch together, and most should be present for the awards presentation.
Eventual winners will be determined by the best win, loss, tie record, then by +points (max 10), then by fewest competitor points.
Entry Information:

Be sure to bring your own lunch and cooler! Wear whites or whites with club shirts. All participants are awarded points towards "Bowler of the Year" honors..

Holmby Park Lawn Bowling Club's (HPLBC) objective is to provide the more competitively inclined bowlers with an opportunity to participate in a SWD approved high level tournament. It is hoped that this event will bring ‘tournament bowlers’ and ‘social bowlers’ closer together as we encourage many of our own ‘social/recreational’ bowlers to come to Holmby Park and watch the matches. Many Holmby Park users and spectators are also expected to watch this competition.
Holmby Park Lawn Bowling Club regrds this tournament as an opportunity to showcase competitive lawn bowling at Holmby Park, with your bowlers competing not as individuals, but as representatives of your club.
This year, our 11th Annual Joslyn tournament is sponsored by the Holmby Park Lawn Bowling Club, the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation & Parks, individuals, and other organizations.

A big thank you goes to Mr. Fred Robles for coordinating and Linda Roberts for assisting Fred in coordinating the Coast League for our Laguna Beach Lawn Bowling Club. It takes a lot of time and motivation to do this and our club appreciates it!
A word from Fred to all the Coast League LBLBC particpants. You are all eligible to play in this year's round up at Long Beach on Sept 7. Stay tuned.
We did our best this year and we (& the board) appreciate your time and energy. Next year the league will be hosted by the Groves.
NO HOSPITALITY!! This means there will be no goodies provided by the club unless they voluntarily decide to do so. So, be prepared to bring your own breakfast, snack, and lunch. There will be no chips or salads provided. All that will be provided is water and coffee. (Please figure out a way to identify YOUR bottle of water from the others...maybe bring a rubber band or ribbon to place around it-?)

The eighth LBLBC tournament of the season, the Reinie Kramer Australian Pairs (Blind Draw) is scheduled for Saturday September 28, 2019 at 9:00am. The price was $5.00 per person.
This is a very special tournament to the members who have been at the club for a while in that it celebrates probably one of the most hardcore competitors, kindest, and thoughtful members our club has ever seen. He would definitely challenge you to be your best in no uncertain terms. Reinie passed away in Feb 2018 at 78 after having won the last tournament he played just the day before. Reinie's family and friends will be in attendance during the lunch portion of the tournament.
We have 32 members signed up to play. The club needs each participant to confirm that he or she will be attending (at the club no later that 8:30am Saturday). Click here to send an email confirmation to the club.
Please note that there will be no 10:00am Social Bowls, nor non-tournament member access to the clubhouse or patio until after the tournament on Sat Sep 28th (~4:00pm).
Australian Pairs is a pretty cool format. Australian Pairs allows both people on a team to play Lead and Skip.
This alternating pattern continues throughout the game. Aside from the extra walking, in the Australian Pairs, the rules are the same as a normal Pairs Game.
This tournament is open only to LBLBC members. Competitors will be matched by blind draw. Bowler of the year points will be awarded!
An even number of teams were accepted to prevent byes. This means that the number of people signing up are evenly divisible by 4. Sign ups were first come first served.
Remember to bring a bottle (to put our filtered water in). Or simply bring your own water. Please wear a club or white shirt and white shorts. No T-shirts please. Remember flat soled shoes and no flip flops.
